Our Values

At Spring College, our values are rooted in Islamic ethics and universal human principles. We aim to cultivate these values in every learner to support their moral, social, psychological, and spiritual development. These values guide our approach to teaching, personal growth, community service, and leadership.

— About us

Core Values

We have established eight core values that form the foundation of our ethos:

Respect (Adab)

Honouring oneself, others, and creation; treating others with dignity and compassion.

Resilience (Ṣabr)

Persevering through life’s challenges with patience and faith.

Empathy (Raḥma)

Cultivating compassion and understanding for others' experiences and perspectives.

Integrity (Amāna & Ṣidq)

Upholding honesty, trustworthiness, and ethical responsibility in all actions.

Love (Maḥabba)

Developing sincere love for Allah, the Prophet ﷺ, family, and humanity.

Trust (Tawakkul & Thiqah)

Placing trust in God and nurturing reliable, supportive relationships.

Courage (Shajā‘a)

Acting with moral bravery and standing firm for what is right.

Reflection (Tafakkur)

Engaging in thoughtful introspection and critical self-evaluation for personal growth.

These values are drawn from both Islamic tradition and contemporary educational best practices, promoting a holistic development of the adult learner.

How We Teach Our Values

Our approach to teaching values is integrated, experiential, and reflective:

  • Values are not taught in isolation but are embedded throughout the curriculum, learning environment, and interpersonal relationships at the College.
  • Each value is introduced with reference to Qur'anic verses, prophetic teachings, and contemporary real-world applications to deepen understanding and relevance.
  • Learners are encouraged to reflect critically and spiritually on how each value manifests in their personal, professional, and communal lives.
  • Case studies, group discussions, journaling, and service-based learning are used to explore and apply values in practical settings.
  • The teaching of values follows a cyclical and layered model, ensuring that learners revisit and deepen their understanding as they progress.

Islamic Foundations of Our Values

Our values education is firmly grounded in Islamic teachings. Key principles that inform our pedagogy include:

Tarbiyah (Nurturing education)

Developing the whole person — intellectually, spiritually, and ethically.

Iḥsān (Excellence)

Encouraging learners to strive for excellence in character and action.

Khidmah (Service)

Promoting selfless service to others as a form of worship.

God-Centeredness (Rabbāniyyah)

Anchoring all aspects of life- personal, social, and intellectual- in the awareness of Allah’s presence, sovereignty, and guidance. This ensures that our actions are ultimately in service to Him, not to ego, trends, or societal pressures.

Spiritual Purification (Tazkiyyah)

A lifelong process of cleansing the heart from spiritual diseases (such as arrogance, envy, and hypocrisy) and nurturing virtues like sincerity, patience, and humility. Tazkiyyah is the foundation of individual reform and social harmony.

Justice (‘Adl)

Upholding fairness and equity in all relationships and systems, guided by divine law. Justice is a central value in Islam and a core purpose for the sending of prophets.

Accountability (Mas'ūliyyah)

Recognising that every individual is answerable before Allah for their actions, words, and intentions. This nurtures personal responsibility and a commitment to moral excellence.
